Celebrity Cruises Ecuador is looking for a Public Health officer to join one of our ships in the Galapagos Islands.

We are looking for a qualified and experienced Public Health officer to join our team at our luxurious cruises. The ideal candidate will be responsible for keep health also treat guest and crew, under strict compliance with the procedures established by the company, of attendance international clients and marines in medical Area.

Responsibilities:
  • The primary responsibility for this position is the care of guests and crew members in any case of infectious illness.
  • Promotion and Prevention leader: The PHO and Medical Officer is expected to take the initiative in implementing programs that will increase the state of health of the ship’s crew such as healthy eating habits and low sodium diets or exercise programs.
  • Advisor of the Master of the Ship: The PHO and Medical Officer must be ready to respond the questions from the Ship’s Management in terms of public health, evacuations, deviations, and budget management of the medical center.
  • The PHO and Medical Officer is expected to take the lead to host team meetings with the purpose of discussing operational aspects of the medical center, academic reviews, medical protocols, etc.
  • Serves as advisor to the Master on all matters related to Medical Center services, Guest, and Crewmember health matters and hygienic conditions onboard the vessel.
  • Oversee inventory of medical supplies and monitors hospital budget. The Doctor is responsible for the annual budgeting of the Medical Center’s consumable supplies and medications.
  • Shall understand the Safety and Quality Management System (SQM) – MGS (para medio ambiente) and carry out the policies and procedures appropriate for his/her position.
  • Participates in inspections of the galley and food handling areas and provides expert assistance regarding sanitation and compliance with USPH and CDC regulations or any other Public Health authorities.
  • The Doctor will document in the patient’s medical record the nature of the consultations, past medical histories, physical examination findings, diagnoses and differential diagnosis, analysis of the cases, laboratory findings, referrals, plans of action, etc.
  • Perform of immunization programs.
  • Ensure that PPE usage and guidelines are followed such as proper donning and doffing, while ensuring adequate supplies of PPE are maintained onboard.
  • Oversee Vessel Sanitation Program compliance on board and report into shoreside public health to ensure suitable records are maintained in accordance with VSP/CDC guidelines.
  • Conduct outbreak investigations.
  • Perform plans of security and safety at work, like risk assessments on board.
  • Ensure hand hygiene compliance and monitoring per SOP.
  • Ensure temperature check data, which is provided by other on-board departments, is uploaded, reported and saved.
  • Is responsible for the testing and logging of water samples.
  • Review protocols with the pier coordinator to ensure the embarkation process is in line with company policy of social distancing and infection control policies and the medical screening process flows smoothly.
  • Coordinates public health related functions with the Medical Officer to ensure adherence with the highest operational standards of public health and compliance with company’s public health policies.
  • Monitors gastrointestinal illness activity and guides the execution of the company’s Outbreak Prevention Plan protocols.
  • Is responsible for the execution of the isolation and quarantine plan.
  • Organizes and delivers public health awareness training to shipboard staff, ensuring awareness of all OPP protocols, COVID-19 and medical waste management.
  • Provides blood borne pathogen training to determinate crewmembers and addresses other infectious concerns that may arise.
  • Routinely communicates program effectiveness, best practices and lessons learned to the Dr. assigned to Ecuadorian fleet.
  • Is responsible of the ship infection control annual report.
  • Assist the Staff Captain and Senior Doctor in all shipboard health-related matters including outbreak prevention, and illness reporting as required by international, national and company policies.
  • Provide support to the Medical Officer in case of emergencies (Star Code).
  • Is responsible for the management of all PCR tests and equipment and the application of PCR Tests.
  • Is responsible to carry out Artificial Ventilation procedures if needed.

Requisitos

Qualifications and Skills:
  • Medical Degree with specialization/experience in infection control or epidemiology management.
  • Three years minimum experience in emergency rooms is required.
  • One-year practical experience in Advanced Cardiac Life Support is required.
  • Five years of experience diagnosing and treating a broad range of medical conditions is required, including experience performing minor surgery such as suturing, removal of benign skin lesions, removal of foreign objects, removal of ingrown toenails, identification of and immobilizing of simple fractures.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support, Pediatric Advanced Life Support and Adult Trauma Life Support certifications.
  • Advanced English level Indispensable.
  • Availability to work on a cruise in the Galapagos for at least 6 weeks.
